RHYTHM & BLUES

Know that, for the country's longest-surviving, english-speaking, hindi-thinking, but no-way-no-hindi-album-making rock'n roll band, we've had our fair share of 'media' exposure. Thanks, but 'tis never been this exciting afore. No way !!

Here's in a nutshell ...

We're just done "JAMMIN" up this song AND a Video with India's first ever Pop Star, the one and only ..

USHA UTHUP
(She, of days when we were all still a-nursery rhymin')

She, most distinctly, is among our earliest exposure to Indian-Western Music. That Black&White image of hers on the then one and only DOORDARSHAN, those New Year Eve specials .. and that soaring voice..

wow! 'tis like she made singing look the fun it is ...

And she's still the same folks. You havta believe this. She looks the the same, dresses the same, only sings ever more soulfully. We recorded this song "Rhythm & Blues" at PostStation in Mumbai this April 3rd. Produced by 'Channel V' as part of a series aptly named JAMMIN' .. USHA UTHUP and P a r i k r a m A were paired to do a song together which would be aired on the TV channel, and later be packaged as a CD and also made available at www.vindia.com

The song was composed earlier this year and was sent to USHA a few weeks before this session, for her perusal and suggestions etc. Reason we chose this song was the main melody .. we could almost hear her singing it in that own way of hers even before we met. Ofcourse, she sang it even better. Nitin, alternating the main verse with her, started timid as a hare. Then sang the USHA. She sang, We saw, We heard .. and Nitin suddenly found this bluesy growl .. hear the song and you'll know what we mean here.

Those 2 days with her were the most inspiring and hugely, immensely educative of our career. She has this infectious energy and unending spirit that lifts you even as she talks. We had a great time just being there with her. Hats-off ma'am. You ROCK.

Well, that's as much as we can reveal anow.. ye'll havta wait till the programme is aired, on MONDAY, APRIL 23rd 2001 at 10:00 PM (India) on CHANNEL V. It'll be Re-cast on Sunday 29th April 2001 at 12:30PM & again 8:00PM.

And since this song was produced by Channel V, and they intend to make it available on their own website, we are putting only a non-downloadable version here.

So do hear this and tell US or USHA UTHUP or CHANNEL V about it
